The value of time to reflect on their psychotherapy work was an important theme for
all the clinical psychologists, as Carol noted, ‘It feels good to have time away from
the surrounding and routine of my job to stand back and reflect on my work and my
clients’. The benefit of such reflective space was a recurring theme in Fiona’s journal,
particularly when feeling the size of her clients’ needs:
I found this a very valuable exercise in terms of being able to think deeply about clients,
experience their world for a short time and get ideas from peers. Can sometimes feel
there’s so much to manage, that it’s hard to feel ‘on the ball’ with people that have huge
needs
