Approximately 60% of all starfish were measured on Little Broadhurst, Stanley and Wheeler Reefs (Table 1). These reefs had large outbreaks of starfish at the time of survey. In all, 66% of starfish were surveyed during the day and almost 58% were located along the leeward margins of reefs (Table 2). Starfish were mainly recorded along the reef slope (56%), when the sea was calm (80%), the wind was less than 10 kt (68%) and the cloud cover was relatively low (50%). Since just over 90% of starfish came from outbreaking reefs, most individuals (64%) were located in high density aggregations (Table 3)
