A mixture of fatty acid (v/v) was prepared by combining 2 parts of oleic acid (Aldrich, Milwaukee,WI) and 1 part of caprylic acid (Sigma). One milliliter of the inoculate egg contents and 0.5 ml of the fatty acid mixture were stirred together for 1 min with an applicator stick or vortexed for 30 s in a 1.7-ml Eppendorf centrifuge tube to allow the acid to react and form an ester with reactive OH groups.
