Though a grievance mechanism exists in Unilever Vietnam (UVN)’s factories, workers are often too scared to voice their concerns. Given the context of the union in Vietnam, the union leaders in the factories may not be able to adequately represent the needs of the workers, and other channels for grievance handling are too sensitive for the workers to use. Therefore, in the absence of a safe place for workers to voice their grievances, severe labour violations would not be raised and come to the company’s attention.
