segments are enhanced by mirrors mounted along side the modules. The output from each of these first nine segments is connected through a 700 kW power conversion unit (PCU). The 10th segment has 43 larger, two-axis trackers and its output is connected to a 750 kW PCU. The measured/calculated a.c rating of the system is only 5.2 MW, much below its rated value. The electrical output of the entire plant is sold to the Pacific Gas & Electric Company and is connected to a nearby 115 kV transmission line. The capacity factors for its years of operation are also listed in Table 1. By 1990, the plant’s output had degraded to a value below 3 MW. Degradation is apparently due to discoloration of the EVA encapsulant between the cover glass and cells in segments 1-9; the mirror-enhanced modules which operate at higher temperatures [24]. Plant performance and degradation are documented in References 14 and 24. Again, since the value of the modules is greater than the value of the energy produced at present, modules are being removed and sold. The plant continues to operate at decreasing levels of output.
