At the beginning of the experiment and after several tests, it was
observed that each pot was able to accept 4e8 L of water, whether it
was wastewater or freshwater, on a daily basis depending mainly
on the air temperature. However, the wetedry cycles were based
on the water requirements of each plant species, while the water
consumption of each plant species was monitored with the use of
tension meters. All the tension meters used were planted at a depth
of 0.3 m; thus, it was possible to monitor the soil moisture and
avoid overloading with water which would result in anaerobic
conditions
