The study of different aspects related to the
behavior of microalgae has received renewed interest
due to the wide field of application of these
microorganisms. Algae cultures have been principally
developed as an important source of many products,
such as aquaculture feeds, human food supplements,
and pharmaceuticals (Pulz and Gross, 2004; Apt et al.
1999) and they have been suggested as a very good
candidate for fuel production (Shenk 2008).
