In this chapter: you will build on the understandings you have gained in the previous two chapters. We describe some common teaching strategies for reading and you will see these practices being used in many classrooms. As a teacher you will learn how to use teacher judgment in order to modify strategies to make them more suitable for particular teaching contexts. For example. most can be modified for use with slightly older or younger children or for use with children for whom English is a second language. When you are working with children who have reading difficulties it will also be necessary to modify strategies and materials.
