The Network topology of IEEE 802.15.4 standard has defined two types of network nodes, i.e. full-function device (FFD) and reduced-function devices (RFD). The main difference between them is the capability of FFD nodes to talk to any other nodes, while RFD nodes are constrained to talk only with FFD nodes. Two basis topologies are addressed in the IEEE 802.15.4 standard [6]. Star topology uses at least one FFD node acted as the coordinator to accept and relay communication with other nodes that may be either FFDs or RFDs. Peer-to-peer topology is to form arbitrary patterns of connections by allowing nodes to communicate with any other nodes within their wireless distance.
