Part of a series of posters to promote the Hiroshima Appeal, a pledge to eliminate the use, possession, and construction of nuclear weapons across the world, Tanaka designed a poster featuring the image of the peace dove. This poster reveals the humanity of Tanaka’s designs and again shows the global outreach of his work. The 1988 Hiroshima Appeals poster is reminiscent of many of Tanaka’s other poster, combining partial transparencies, traditional Japanese illustration, and modernist layout principles.
