In recent years there has been a substantial decline in the decorative ceramics market,
with considerable restructuring and consolidation of customers and suppliers.
Unfortunately we anticipate that this trend is likely to continue for the foreseeable
future.
Consequently it is with great regret that Johnson Matthey is proposing to cease the
manufacture and supply of ceramic colour products. If implemented, this proposal
would result in the closure of our sites at Cresswell and High Carr in the UK, as well
as our sales office and distribution facilities in Hong Kong and the manufacture of
glass ink products and distribution of decorative precious metal inks would be
serviced through other existing Johnson Matthey facilities.
The Company has entered a 30 day consultation period with all employees who could
be affected by the proposed changes.
From 27th March we will endeavour to satisfy new orders from existing finished and
intermediate stocks.
Going forward, Johnson Matthey Colour Technologies will continue to focus and
invest in its glass enamel and precious metal inks products for the architectural,
appliance, automotive and decorative glass markets.
We will write to you again to keep you informed of developments, but in the
meantime if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact your
Johnson Matthey representative.
Yours sincerely
Raymond van
