The green tea extract capsules were taken from a product that is
commercially available in the market.
Each 315 mg capsule consists of green tea extract standardized to
contain 14% (44 mg) polyphenols and other ingredients, which account
for 2% of the total product's weight like dicalcalcium phosphate and
vegetable cellulose. Dicalcium phosphate and vegetable cellulose are
non active ingredients of the capsule which aids in tablet compression
and helps to hold the tablet together respectively361.

According to an article by Gawish et al, 2011, the required dosage
of green tea extract for rats is 40 mg/kg daily orally351. The outer shell of
the capsule was removed and the enclosed green tea extract powder was
weighed on an electronic scale (Sartorius Precision Balance, Germany).
The dose was prepared by dissolving 8mg of green tea extract powder in
2 ml of distilled water in a glass beaker at room temperature.
D o s e d e liv e r y
The liquid form of 8 mg of green tea extract was given orally daily
to each of the rats in experimental group C and D for duration of 12
weeks. In order to maintain the consistency of the dosage, green tea
extract was prepared fresh daily. It was administered early in the morning
orally by oral gavage on an empty stomach through plastic feeding
tubes (Instec Company). Gavage makes it possible to administer accurate
dosage directly into the stomach at specified timings37'.
