Logistics-related innovation was more strongly linked to the process than to the product, and packaging was managed as a system of services along the forward and reverse supply chains. In fact, the very balanced frequency distribution of “protection and conservation”, “handling and transport”, and “manipulation and storage” seems consistent with the concept of logistical innovation, which manifests itself as an initiative that is “systemic” and narrowly focused on the logic of the process. By contrast, the very low frequency relating to the “information” function of logistics seems inconsistent with that concept, but that result could be explained in two ways.
