Jet fuel consumption was on the rise during the 1980s and 1990s and it reached a plateau during 2000 - 2007 (Figure 8). Since 2007, similar to diesel consumption, jet fuel consumption began a downward trend due to low demand and a weak economy. States consuming the most jet fuel
include California, Texas, New Jersey, Florida, and Illinois (Figure 9); they are home to some of the busiest airports in the United States as well as large military bases.
