The surfacesofbiomagnetitenanoparticleswerefunctionalizedwith3-Mercaptopropionicacid(3MPA)
and usedasahigh-capacityandrecyclableadsorbentfortherapidremovalofNi(II)fromaqueousso-
lution. The3MPA@Fe3O4 MNPs werecharacterizedbyFouriertransformedinfraredanalysis(FT-IR),
transmission electronmicroscopy(TEM),energydispersiveX-rayspectroscopy(EDS)andvibrating
sample magnetometer(VSM)analysis.This3MPA@Fe3O4 MNPs havebeenusedforremovalofNi(II)
from aqueoussolution.Thehysteresisloopsof3MPA@Fe3O4 MNPs showsanexcellentferromagnetic
behaviorwithsaturationmagnetizationvalueof14.02emu/g.Theadsorptionisothermdatawere fitted
well toLangmuirisotherm,themonolayeradsorptioncapacitywasfoundtobe42.01mg/gat303K.The
experimentalkineticdata fitted verywellthepseudo-second-ordermodel.Theresultsindicatethatthe
biogenic 3MPA@Fe3O4 MNPs actassignificant adsorbentmaterialforremovalofNi(II)aqueoussolution
and alsoconsideredasapotentialadsorbentforhazardousmetalionsfromwastewater.
