Blended control method has parallel and series control
strategy. During blended control, CD range is longer
than EV range. We have to separate the motor work and
the ICE work to obtain running range driven by electricity
from external source. Moreover, when ICE and motors
run simultaneously, the work of the respective drive
powers cannot be separated. In the case of such
blended controls, the work done by motors cannot be
evaluated. It is necessary to define an equivalent EV
range. The equivalent EV range is distance driven by
electricity power supplied by external sources. This does
not necessarily have to be EV run, but work of ICE is not
included.
Fig 5 shows relation between each parameter on
hypothetical typical PHEV operation. All electric (AE)
operation is very simple and easy. The vehicle uses only
electric powered motor for running same as pure electric
vehicle. Blended control during CD operation has
complex and difficult situation. Internal combustion
engine (ICE) and motor are sometimes running
separately, sometime running simultaneously. That is
depending on manufactures operation strategy
