IV. DISPLAYING REGIONAL DATA ELEMENTS FOR STREETS
The model proposed in this paper displays regional data
elements along street lines for intuitive data presentation.
The scope of query for regional data elements is restricted
by the view taken by the camera. The input video always
includes a street in itself, thus there always a virtual street
displayed in the middle of the screen, and the query results
surrounding the virtual street are placed. The street distance
from the user’s location to each regional data element is
calculated; then the nearest elements on the street in the
user’s direction are placed for viewing. Only the regional
data elements that lie inside the threshold distance are
displayed on screen, however, if the user scrolls the
augmented street in the screen center, such excluded
regional data elements are displayed on screen. With this
application behavior, the user does not need to physically
walk on the street to find out the locational data.
Overlapping is also prevented because the regional data
elements are placed with sufficient gaps in between them.
