Regarding detergents remediation (Fig. 9), the removal effi-ciency presents a growing increase from ca. 10% to almost 60% in the case of SNS. The reasons for these differences must be found in the length of the hydrocarbon chain and in their ramification. Steric difficulties may block the adsorption of the detergent, as well as the polar charge in each surfactant (Holmberg et al., 2003). It is speciallyrelevant to see TRF are efficient adsorbents for both cationic (dye)and anionic (detergent) pollutants, being the result of this adsorption dependent on factors such as the molecular weight, length andgeometry.
