I agree with your point on textile (Vietnam) but not on auto industry (Indonesia). Auto production requires a huge supply chain system which have already been put in place in Thailand by Japanese firms decades ago, giving us an advantage over our peers since it is not that simple to set up a new supply chain system.
Moreover, geographic-wise it makes more sense for auto companies to use Thailand as a hub for the region relative to Indonesia which is made up of several islands making it a supply chain nightmare.
Auto production has down largely due to economic situation, and not much of competitiveness issues.
