Interface Modules (7): The two Interface Modules, or IMs, connect the Motor ECMs to the Phase Modules of the Converter Group via fiber optic conductors. The Interface Modules have two major subcomponents: Fiber Optic Interface and Gate Drive Power Supply. The Fiber Optic Interface converts electrical signals from the Motor ECM to optical signals that gate the Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs) in the Phase Modules, as well as the Crowbar. The Interface Module also converts status signals of the Phase Modules from optical signals to electrical signals that are input to the Motor ECMs. The Gate Drive Power Supply creates the 24 VAC necessary for the correct operation of the gates for each Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) located within each Phase Module.
Bulk Capacitor Assembly (8): This capacitor assembly provides a three second emergency power supply to the interface modules that will allow a stable phase module shutdown if the system power is interrupted. In order to prevent damage to the Phase Modules, 24 volts must be present during shutdown.
