its magnitude and duration [13–15,69], and so the post-trucking
samples should reflect the cumulative stresses of loading (draining
and seining lasted 15–30 min, then ~30 min to count and load each
truck). A 1–2 h delay in the secondary stress response of elevated
plasma glucose is well documented [13,81], but plasma glucose had
not increased after trucking and even the greater accumulation of
dissolved CO2 during transit from Georgie Lake did not result in
greater primary or secondary stress responses. Instead, the secondary
stress response elicited by the modest primary stress response was
delayed until fish were aboard the Sterling Carrier.
