Past successes and Future Challenges
Roofez is a strategically oriented company with an emphasis on customer service and quality accomplished through a team approach In the Hungarian context, and following closely on the heels of a post-socialist regime, this strategic emphasis is both progressive and unique.Despite existing strengths, the General Manager Mr.Csabai was continually probing to see what they could still do better. more specifically he knew that how responsibility was shared between the Austrian and Hungarian partners was not ideal. There were hints the Austrians were stifling innovation and not paying enough attention to the local context. How might this be improved? Further, how could the corporate culture at Roofex be sustained, especially if the leader who had led the charge for change retired? How could the team focus identified as important for workers be retained or even augmented?
In the training area, training budgets had been reduced and workers didn't think the foreign partner provided enough training. Some workers questioned the competence of foreign trainers, and the fact workers didn't have enough time to take courses. Finally, there was some concern that rewards did not provide an adequate incentive to workers. Mr.Csabai had heard some other joint ventures in central/eastern Europe were adopting performance bonuses for workers. On the questionnaire, employees strongly advocated the use of a bonus arrangement.Should he consider this option at Roofex? Mr.csabai was lost in a myriad of thoughts as he gazed toward the future.
