Krispy Kreme comes to Bangkok
There have been long queues of hungry customers in and even outside Krispy Kreme ever since it opened its doors at Siam Paragon on Sept 28.
Its supersweet doughnuts are the talk of the town and Ausanee Mahagitsiri, CEO of KDN company which runs the local business, is confident it is not just a passing fad.
Krispy Krème doughnuts, made following a closely guarded recipe, are legendary she says.
"The Original Glazed doughnut, made fresh daily and served warm, has been available for over 70 years and still sells like hot cakes. The secret recipe has been passed down from generation to generation and today only six people know it," she said.
Ausanee is not one of them. She says she only knows that it has something to do with the yeast raising process.
Founded by Vernon Rudolph, Krispy Kreme first sold its doughnuts in 1937 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and today the business has expanded to over 20 countries.
