Troughton-Smith, as 'confirmed' int he clip, said that the code allows apps to take up half of the screen, a single quarter or three quarters, suggesting split-screen in iOS 8 will mimic Microsoft's "Snap" multitasking feature. In theory, this means that iPad users could set Twitter to take up a quarter of the screen, while Netflix is set to take up the remaining space.
According to last month's rumours, the split-screen feature will also allow apps to interact more easily. For example, users might be able to drag content - such as text, video or images - from one app to another.
What remains unclear is why Apple didn't show off the new feature at WWDC last week, but speculation suggests that it could be because the firm is waiting for an upcoming iPad unveiling, which likely will take place this autumn. µ
