Strengths and limitations
Most end-of-life studies in the critical care
environment are conducted in an intensive care
setting. This study highlights the uniqueness of
small open critical care units such as HDUs and
how the environmental barriers affect how the
nurses’ deliver end-of-life care. The study was
conducted in a single care setting with a
small sample size, and the findings cannot be
generalised to other critical care settings.
