Tinting the sky a hazy shade of brown
The sky is hazy anytime dust, pollutants, smoke,or other particles change your ability to see clearly. Clouds of haze are most common after forest fires or near in dustrial sites that emit pollutants into the air . But in recent decades , places far from cities and industry have become hazy – evidence that air pollution circulates far from its source and affects environments that are thought to be a safe distance from pollution sources.
Grand canyon National park in the U.S. is one place where haze has increased in the last 50 years . Although haze is troublesome because it indicates the presence of dangerous air pollutants,it also diminishes the beauty and aesthetic value of a wilderness landscape like the one at the canyon. This type of environmental effect is difficult to quantify, but it’s an important consideration in calculating the cost of air pollution.
