Nagay et al.
observed phenotypic changes
in the cells of smooth muscle afferent artery
of the renal glomerulus
in patients with chronic hypertension
who also experienced preeclampsia.
By immunohistochemistry,
they demonstrated the occurrence
of reduced contractile protein (antimonoclonal smooth miscle cell myosin heavy chain isoform antibodies = SM2) in afferent glomerular arteries of patients with preeclampsia superimposed on chronic hypertension.
