Finally, this study has provided important support to an area of research
that has previously been investigated largely through a quantitative lens. Many
researchers have studied the relationship of gender, interests, and social
supports to efficacy beliefs; however, few, if any, studies of this type have used
a qualitative approach in the area of undergraduate engineering education. The
findings presented have demonstrated that the sources of efficacy beliefs
proposed by Bandura can be identified among undergraduate engineering
students. Moreover, the level of influence each sources is suggested to have
has been replicated in our data. These replications, based on qualitative data,
therefore prove to significantly strengthen the claims of researchers in this area.
