4. Discussion
Experimental studies with mice have long shown that irradiation during the preimplantation period of the embryonic development leads to a high incidence of prenatal deaths but virtually
no malformations. However, various results obtained during the two last decades have challenged this dogma of Teratology, showing that ionizing radiation could be potentially teratogenic in at least three mouse strains (Heiligenberger, ICR and CF1) when administered during the preimplantation period, and particularly
