Our results indicate that making only a few collections in a few
sampling units of an Amazonian ecosystem (e.g. “terra firme”) will
hide the polypore species richness of this ecosystem and of the
biome, and will prevent the assessment of its species composition.
The low similarities among transects or centres has implications for
conservation measures for polypores, which are usually neglected
in inventories. For this group of fungi, a few small reserves would
not protect its full diversity.
