From another viewpoint, the business case for extensive
deployment of 3G LTE is critically dependent on the services
that mobile operators decide to offer. As has been discussed in
this paper, the key strengths of LTE are the support of mobile
TV and radio, the feasibility of VoIP services, and
possibilities for broadband Internet access. These features
make it possible for a mobile operator to successfully compete
with the broadcasting technologies and the high-speed fixed
access solutions, as well as offer compelling new services
with VoIP. Therefore, there is definitely a strong business
case for mobile operators to seek these service strategies with
3G LTE. On the other hand, if mobile operators decide not to
adopt any of these strategies (e.g. by functioning merely as a
'bit-pipe'), the business potential of 3G LTE is significantly
reduced.
