Extended kanban Control System (EKCS), proposed theoretically
by Dallery and Liberopoulos (2000), is an alternative to
kanban systems and base stock control system since according to
these authors none of these MFC systems achieves a proper
balance between quick customer response and low work in
process. In the EKCS system, the demand for finished products is
divided into each productive stage and immediately transferred to
the respective processes. It can be noted that the production in
each stage depends on the demand, but it is limited by the signals,
which are also an order to transfer parts to the following stages.
Karaesmen and Dallery (2000), Dallery and Liberopoulos (2000),
Liberopoulos and Dallery (2000), and Baynat et al. (2002) provide
more information about EKSC.
