a. Divide the five functions among four people in such a way as to maintain the best possible control system. The text explains that IT duties such as programming, operations, and data control are separated. It also categorizes system analysts and programmers in the same group for systems development. Drawing upon these conclusions, I chose the separation of duties as the following: One person could be in charge of programming and system analyzing. The computer operator, librarian, and data control could be delegated to one person per responsibility. This pattern keeps the controls adequately separated amongst four different people even though there are five responsibilities. b. Divide the five functions among three people in such a way as to maintain the best possible internal control. Again, following the examples in the text, one person would need to be delegated the responsibilities of a systems analyst and programmer. Another person should assume the obligations of computer operator and librarian. The third person would be in charge of data control. c. Divide the five functions between two people in such a way as to maintain the best possible control system. One person should be a systems analyst, programmer, and computer operator. The second and final individual would be left with the responsibilities of a librarian and data control.
