The problems in the Turkish and American textbooks were coded separately by two
researchers. The coherence between intercoders was calculated using the formula developed by Miles
and Huberman (1994) ((Agreement/Agreement + Disagreement) x100). Calculations were performed
for each category within the framework for analysis. The researchers then met to discuss their
analyses. It was observed that the agreement between the analyses varied between 88% and 98%.
Following this, the problems which displayed divergences were discussed and reached a consensus
regarding the analyses. The study data were presented comparatively with the aid of frequencies and
percentage distributions.
