The Secretary General at the Office of the Education Council said that the subcommittee reforming the teacher production and development system has focused on the long term production and development of teachers over 20 years. Therefore, operational strategies and objectives must be clear and problems need to be resolved correctly. All problematic conditions must be addressed, especially the problem of teacher shortages in some subjects, such as technology, agriculture, production, services, etc.
Initially, the working team proposed adjusting the criteria for teacher employment in these fields according to their professional qualifications, experience, and skills rather than academic qualifications, in order to help teachers to earn higher salaries and to resolve the problems with this issue.
Mr. Amornwich Nakhonthap, Secretary Assistant and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, as one of the subcommittee members, he expressed his opinion that the reason for the education reform is to create a new framework for the thinking process for the children.
They should have life and professional skills and should not only focus on academics or memorization. The Office of the Basic Education Commission should resolve the problems of curriculums and the teaching and learning concept throughout the system, from the level of preschool education through both elementary, and secondary education. Teaching and learning should not depend on the social current too much. Children often spend most of their time attending tutoring class which causes them to be short of life- skills. The conclusion of the drafted Strategies for Teacher Production and Development will be proposed to the National Council Reform by 27th February 2015. The conclusion of strategies for education reform will be expedited to be completed by 10th April 2015.
Mr. Sommai Paritchat, the subcommittee member working on public communication, said that teacher spirit should be instilled substantially in teachers in the teacher production and development system. The teaching spirit should be urgently reformed because it is an important qualification of teachers. Moreover, the procedures and authority to set-up a national mechanism for teacher production and development should not be duplicated, in order to send and receive clear instructions for mobilizing the strategies to resolve this issue with reference to the goals that were set.
