Ayutthaya currently has two floating markets. (There used to be three.)
The original floating market is in Tambon (village) Klong Sabua, to the north of Ayutthaya island. It's only open at weekends. Its website is at www.ayutthayafloatingmarket.com/index.php
The newer floating market is in Tambon Pai Ling, to the east of Ayutthaya island. It's open every day. It's next to (and run by the same people as) Pang Chang (an elephant house). The website is elephantayothaya.com/floating%20market.html.
Neither is "authentic". They have both been created as tourist attractions.
Personally I prefer the newer market. There are a lot of stalls selling plastic junk (including fake poo) and cheap T-shirts, but between them there are stalls selling traditional sweets which you'd struggle to find elsewhere.
To be honest, it's best to visit late afternoon when it's a little cooler, but the market gets going around 10 a.m..
There are two temples close to the market which hardly ever get tourists: Wat Maheyong and Wat Kutidao. Since you'll be in the area, do check them out.
