5. Conclusion
Due to the undesirable problems and side effects arisen from the
consumption of artificial chemical compounds, the essential oils
and extracts from various plant species, especially edible and
medicinal ones have attained appreciable interest among the
research community. Our data indicate that A. cepa essential oil
shows a moderate antimicrobial activity against referenced strains
and also possess an interesting antioxidant activity. Taken together,
these results show that the essential oil could be considered as a natural alternative to traditional food preservatives and be used to
enhance food safety and shelf life.
