Starch was quantified with the Kit. Cat. No. 10207748035, Böehringer
Mannheim/R-Biopharm. Ethanol was measured with the Böehringer
Mannheim/R-Biopharm, Kit. Cat. No. 10 176 290 035. The
degree of polysaccharide degradation was estimated by quantifying
the amount of reducing sugars formed during enzymatic or
acidic hydrolysis. Reducing sugars were determined as glucose
by using dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS) reagent at optical density
575 nm, by the method described by Miller (1959).
