In what follows, I discuss the issue of enhanced information access as a civil rights issue. I illustrate that this is an issue that affects not only blind people, but also older adults, people for whom English is a second language, people with cognitive disabilities, brain injuries, psychiatric impairments, and many others. Afterwards, I discuss the issue of impairment and how one's impairment status can vary in different contexts, how in emergencies what is "normal" can shift.
