In this experiment, it was necessary to compare both enzyme reactors relative to each other, rather than to compare the absolute values, as the absolute peak area of a reactor may vary greatly due to different factors. For example, the performance of the enzyme reactorweakensduetoitsexposuretosamples,butitcanberecov-ered to a large extend by placing the reactor in a carbonate buffer solution in the fridge for the night. Also, the sensitivity of the plat-inum cell decreases over time, leading to smaller peaks in the chromatogram. By cleaning the cell, its initial sensitivity can berestored. Thus, it is not possible to determine the exact decrease of one sulfite oxidase reactor’s reactivity.
However, the plant sulfite oxidase reactor still showed approxi-mately 93% of its initial performance at the end of this experiment.
