Exhibit 1 The Five Basic Parts of the Organization
These five parts together make the whole organization (see part B, Exhibit 1). Not all organizations need all of these parts. Some use few and are simple, others combine all in rather complex ways. The central purpose of structure is to coordinate the work divided in a variety of ways; how that coordination is achieved—by whom and with what—dictates what the organization will look like (see Exhibit 2):
