Themain protein dense food products that provide a large portion of
daily protein intake within aWestern diet include dairy and meat. Relatively
few studies have examined the effect of ingesting protein dense
foods on postprandialmuscle protein synthesis rates. It has been shownthat the ingestion of 113 g lean (90%) ground beef (containing 30 g protein,
10 g EAA, and 2 g leucine) stimulates muscle protein synthesis
rates in both young and older individuals by ~50% when compared to
post-absorptive muscle protein synthesis rates
