Once there were two orphans, a brother and a sister. They were both homeless and had no family except for an old goat. Each day they and their goat walked many miles, looking for food and a place to sleep. Each night they huddled together and slept. But one starry evening, the old goat died. The two children buried their friend next to an icy stream. Then they sat under a tree and started to worry. What would they do? They had no family and no home. At first, the girl cried. His brother comforted her but she kept crying. Then they both wept for a very long time. No one was there to comfort them. There were only the stars in the sky.
Suddenly, the sky filled with bright light. The two kids held their breath and hugged each other. They were afraid to move. One bright star fell to the ground. Slowly, the star took the shape of the old goat. She bleated, bent her head and drank from the stream. She looked at the kids, smiled, and bleated again. As she jumped back into the sky, bits of goat wool fell.
When the Sun began to appear, the children picked up the soft, warm wool. To their surprise, it glowed in their hands like starlight. They carried the wool to the city and sold it. With the money, they bought a house. They bought two young goats. They never forgot the star goat. And now they didn’t have wander around anymore.
