In this study, we investigated the feasibility of OPT to produce
high level cellulases and xylanases enzymes through solid-state
fermentation. This study highlighted a newly isolated strain, A.
fumigatus SK1 which could produce cellulolytic and xylanolytic
system that efficiently hydrolyse complex untreated OPT which
is cheap and abundant. Maximum cellulases and xylanase productions
were achieved using 125 m of grinded OPT with 80%
moisture level and 108 spores/g of substrate as inoculum. Cellulases
and xylanase secreted by A. fumigatus SK1 showed maximum
activities at 60–70 ◦C in acidic condition. The crude cellulases and
xylanase secreted were capable ofhydrolysing OPT toproduce valuable
simple sugars. In future studies, statistical optimization of
medium and physical factors as well as scaling up studies in bioreactor
should be practised as preparation for commercialization in
future.
