As the equations above show the total attenuation of the system is ¼ of the original signal, therefore the amplification of the inverting amplifier must be of magnitude 4. When this knowledge is coupled with the 180 degree phase shift of the filters it can be determined that the amplifier have a value of 4 in order for the circuit to pass back the original signal and thereby oscillate.
