The suburbs are designed around cars whereas cities (or at least any city I'd be interested in) are designed around people. That makes cities much more livable. If you want to go for a walk, you just step outside and wander, and you have a choice between an urban setting or parkland. In the suburbs (or at least any suburb I've been to), you need to get into a car in order to do anything, even exercise. Strolling around near the place you live most often lands you in a parking lot or dangerous intersection.
