The Market Cow Health and Welfare working group, under the direction of Dr. Dan Thomson (Kansas State University), Dr. Mike Siemens (Cargill), Dr. Kurt Vogel (University of Wisconsin-River Falls), Dr. Jennifer Walker (Dean Foods), is tasked with improving the health and welfare of market cows coming off the farm and into the food chain. We believe that by establishing guidelines and creating awareness around the health and welfare of market cows, the health and welfare of these animals will be improved. We also believe that the best mechanism to achieve this outcome is through engagement, outreach and creating awareness with farmers, ranchers, dairy producers and veterinarians while we continue to work closely with our supply chain partners
