wikiHow to Make a Dutch Braid
The Dutch braid looks difficult to create, but it's actually fairly simple. To make a Dutch braid, grab a section of hair from the top of your head, separate it into three equal portions, and braid the portions under each other instead of weaving them over; as you progress down, introduce more hair from the rest of your head until you've included it all and reach the bottom. It's basically an inside-out or reverse French braid, so if you have mastered the French braid and want to try something new, the Dutch braid is a great option.
1.Prepare your hair. You can use damp or dry hair for a dutch braid, but make sure that it is well brushed. Remove all tangles, and if you have many fly-away hairs use a spray bottle to slightly dampen it with water.
If you want your hair to be wavy/curly when you remove it from the braid, use wet hair to start.
Brush your hair straight back so that there is no part. If you want to create 2 or more braids, part your hair on the top into separate sections.
If you don't intend on braiding your bangs, brush them to the side at this point.
2. Gather your hair. Grab a piece of hair from the top of your head. If you want to include your bangs, start this section directly above your forehead. Otherwise, pick up a section from the very top of your head. Gather a piece ranging from 3–5 inches (7.6–12.7 cm) wide, and 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick.
3.Split the section you grabbed into three strands for braiding. The Dutch Braid consists of intertwining three strands of your hair so this will be the base you start from.
4.Cross the right strand under the center strand.
5.Cross the left strand under the center strand
6.Repeat the pattern and cross the right strand, then the left strand, under the center strand, whilst adding in hair.
