Hypothesis 3 stated that solidarity with feminists would fully
mediate the relationship between positive portrayals of
feminist men and intentions to engage in collective action
on behalf of women. Multiple regression analyses were conducted
to test for mediation, following the steps outlined by
Baron and Kenny (1986) and utilizing the Statistical Package
for the Social Sciences (SPSS) macro developed by Preacher
and Hayes (2008). Because we expected that only a positive
portrayal of feminist men would increase feminist solidarity
and collective action and because we did not observe
differences between the negative and neutral conditions in the
ANOVAs, we coded the former condition as 1 and the latter
two conditions as 0 in our mediation analysis.3 The results of
the mediation analyses can be seen in Figure 1.
