The last image on serving bread with wine is the image that ties everything together. To “serve bread with your wine” is like to give reason with your action. Only do things because there is a legitimate good reason for doing so. I believe that these three images in Peter Meinke’s “Advice to My Son” contribute to the overall meaning of the poem.
